Gilbert Fran Casellas (b. 1952) is a United States lawyer who was General Counsel of the Air Force from 1993 to 1994 and Chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission from 1994 to 1997.
Gilbert F. Casellas was born ca. 1952 in Tampa, Florida, the son of Hispanic parents.[1] He lived in Tampa growing up.[2] He was educated at Yale University, receiving a B.A. in 1974, and at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, receiving a J.D. in 1977.[3]
After law school, Casellas completed a two year clerkship with Judge A. Leon Higginbotham, Jr. of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.[4] In 1979, he joined the law firm of Montgomery, McCracken, Walker and Rhoads in Philadelphia.[5]
In 1993, President of the United States Bill Clinton nominated Casellas to be General Counsel of the Air Force and he held this office until 1994.[6] From 1994 to 1998, he was chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.[7]
Upon leaving government service in 1998, Casselas became a partner at McConnell Valdes.[8] He then spent 1999-2000 as President of the Swarthmore Group.[9] He worked as President and CEO of Q-linx in 2001. He was head of his own law firm, Casellas & Associates, from 2001 to 2005.[10] Since 2005, he has been a partner at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky, and Popeo.[11]
